So good. It's the making the familiar purchased necessity strange *and* beautified, from moneyed to be-friended that changes not just the food but the eating and even the space around it. Your work is Word in way I hadn't put together in just this way until this piece.

It is no accident of his emptiness, I think, that Arendt found Eichmann to be some one who speaks almost entirely in cliche. The emptying of living word is also an emptying of all Company. Every bit of the world begins to become things instead of people.

I have never read that Abram's book. Started after this note of yours and realized how crazy at home I am in it. Was saving it for an unrainy day I guess.

There was thunder here last night, but the water missed us. Wells are words like gifts.

beautiful. i read your missives off and on-- and encounter some parallel threads in my own thinking and relating to the more than humans and gift and all the tangled questions of how to be human in it all. i too put in a word for David Abram's book spell of the sensuous. it is one of those books that found me at just the right time and affected my life deeply. thanks for what you do, and may the rains come.
